Woodmancote was first mentioned in its own right in 1170 when the then Bishop's Officers organised a thorough survey of their estates. The village has grown from less than 100 inhabitants in the 1500's to its present population of some 3500. Many of the early buildings, albeit modernised, still exist and there are at least eighteen listed, most located in Bushcombe lane and Stockwell lane.
